Zulqarnain Haider seek political asylum

Pakistan cricketer Zulqarnain Haider has fled to London and may seek political asylum in the UK, after he received death threats for refusing to fix a game.

Haider fled from a team camp in Dubai where Pakistan were preparing for a match against South Africa, and said he fled the country rather than play out of respect ‘of my motherland’. and was told by London immigration officials when he arrived yesterday that he could hire a lawyer to plead his case.

‘I received death threats to lose the fourth and fifth one-day internationals against South Africa, but I could not compromise the dignity of my country,’ said Haider, in an interview to Geo News. ‘I would rather flee away than sell out the dignity and respect of my motherland.’
