Jermain Defoe enjoyed an unhappy return to life in a Tottenham shirt this afternoon as Spurs were beaten 1-0 by Wigan at the JJB. Maynor Figueora got the all important goal in injury team to leave Harry Redknapp's side down in the bottom three.
Spurs began the game well with Ledley King playing in the holding roll in fron of the back four and Luka Modric pulling the strings in midfield, but it was Steve Bruce's Wigan that had the better chances going close through Amr Zaki and Emile Heskey.
Fabio Capello was at the game to watch Defoe's return to his former club, but the England striker didn't manage a single shot on goal. It was Honduran defender Figueora who broke the deadlock late on, heading home a Ryan Taylor corner to move Wigan up into seventh place.
