West Ham 2 Arsenal 2

West Ham came from two goals down to grab a vital point against Arsenal at Upton Park this afternoon. Gianfranco Zola's side were booed off at half time as they appeared on course for another defeat, however the players had other ideas and clawed their way back into the game.

Arsenal took the lead after 16 minutes when Robin van Persie capitalized on a mistake from England hopeful Robert Green who missed a routine cross from the right. Things got even worse for the Hammers ten minutes before the break when William Gallas powered a van Persie header into the top right hand corner.

Zola decided to throw caution to the wind throwing on Italian striker Alessandro Diamanti in place of midfielder Mark Noble and the decision paid off almost straight away. The Gunners appeared to be in control of the game until Vito Mannone found Diamanti's free-kick too hot to handle and Carlton Cole was on hand to head the ball into the unguarded net.

Alex Song was adjudged to have fouled Carlton Cole in the box ten minutes before the end and Diamanti stepped up to fire the resulting spot-kick past his compatriot in the Arsenal goal. West Ham will be hoping that the result kick starts their season while Arsene Wenger has again seen his team drop points that appeared to be in the bag.
