Welsh flanker Andy Powell arrested in golf buggy on motorway

Wales flanker Andy Powell was arrested in the early hours of this morning after reportedly driving a golf buggy taken from the hotel where the Welsh team were staying towards the M4 motorway.

Powell was arrested with another unnamed man at 6am this morning, just hours after Wales' famous 31-24 victory over Scotland at Cardiff yesterday, at junction 33 on the M4. One of the pair is alleged to have failed a breath test.

The golf buggy is reported to have been taken from the Vale Hotel just outside Cardiff where Wales were based for their Six Nations clash with the Scots.

'South Wales Police can confirm that two 28-year-old males from the Brecon area were arrested on suspicion of taking and driving away a golf buggy,' a police spokesman said. 'One of those males subsequently failed a breath test.'

Powell, who plies his trade with the Cardiff Blues, played for the British and Irish Lions during the summer in South Africa and has 14 caps for Wales.
