Walcott out for six weeks with ankle injury

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has been ruled out for four to six weeks due to the ankle injury he picked up during England’s 3-1 win over Switzerland on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old was injured in the build-up to Wayne Rooney’s opening goal when he clashed with Switzerland defender Yves Oehri and now looks certain to miss England’s next qualifier against Montenegro in October.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger commented on the injury earlier today: ‘The tackle looked quite bad,’ the Frenchman said. ‘When you see how it turned his ankle I thought it would be three or four days or it would be four to six weeks.’

‘Unfortunately it will be four to six weeks. We had some good news about the scan because at some stage we were scared it could be worse. But overall it is a question of patience and rehabilitation.’

Walcott had bounced back well from being left out of England’s World Cup squad, scoring four goals in the first two games of the new Premier League season as well as earning himself an international recall.

However, the flying winger’s latest injury setback is disappointing for both the player and fans alike.
