Villa look to sign Tuncay and Downing from Boro
Aston Villa are reported to be in talks with recently relegated Middlesbrough over the possible double signing of Turkey striker Tuncay Sanli and England winger Stewart Downing. Boro are said to be looking for at least £20m for the pair, but Villa are reported to have made a much lower bid.
Downing broke his foot at the end of last season and will be out of action until at least October but has been given the all clear to start light training in September. The 24-year-old is set to have a pin removed from his foot next month and his specialist is confident that the left-winger will make a speedy recovery.
Middlesbrough have put a £12m price tag on Downing's head while Tuncay has been valued at £8m. However, it looks as if Villa could face competition for the Turkish striker's signature with Everton reported to have made an official approach for the 27-year-old.
