Van Persie to return for Spurs match

Robin van Persie is set to return to Arsenal’s squad for tomorrow night’s North London derby at White Hart Lane. The Holland striker has been out of action since November after picking up an ankle injury while on international duty.

However, the 26-year-old returned to first team training last week and will be available for Arsenal’s last four games of the season against Wigan, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers and Fulham.

Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier today that van Persie will take part in tomorrow's match: ‘He will feature,’ the Arsenal manager said. ‘He's in the squad for tomorrow's game. It's a bit premature [for him to start] but we'll see. I haven't picked the team yet.’

‘When I pick a player it means he's fit and sharp. He's worked very hard. He lacks match practice, but physically he's fit. There's always a gamble, I won't deny that, in such kind of decisions. But in his case we have been a bit more cautious because he's been out so long.’

Wenger also acknowledged that Arsenal have to beat Tottenham tomorrow night to have any chance of winning the Premier League: ‘To win the championship, anything other than a victory here is not good enough,’ he said. ‘So we go there with that intention: to win the game. We don't go there to draw. We go there to win the game.’
