van der Vaart turned down Liverpool for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur’s latest signing Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that he snubbed Liverpool in order to join the London club on transfer deadline day last Tuesday.

The Holland international had been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, however, he told Sky Sports that he was approached by Liverpool about a possible move.

‘Bayern were not interested, but Liverpool were interested,’ van der Vaart said. ‘In the end you have to have a good feeling, and with [Harry Redknapp] I got a good feeling.’

‘I am happy I am going to Spurs. I am going to give it my best and hopefully I will play a lot of games and be important for the team.’

The former Real Madrid midfielder is the latest in a long line of Dutch players to move to the Premier League including current internationals Dirk Kuyt, Johnny Heitinga and Nigel de Jong.

Van der Vaart revealed that the trio had convinced him to move to England: ‘They were always telling me, 'You have to come to England'. Now it's happened and I am really looking forward to playing against Dirk, Nigel, and Heitinga.’
