A look at the us open golf

The 111th us open golf championship saw crowd favourite Rory McIlroy eventually win in fantastic style with an eight shot victory carding 16 under par for the championship. After falling short in the first major of the year, Rory McIlroy didn't dwell on his failure to win and ensured that this time around he would make no mistake on his way to comfortably winning the us open.

Jason Day was the runner up to McIlroy at Congressional golf club with Chappell, Garrigues and Lee Westwood rounding off the top 5. the win was Rory's maiden golf major and will certainly be hoping to build upon this success in future majors into 2012 where he will undoubtedly once again be the one to watch. Playing the best golf of his life, McIlroy never looked in any danger of losing top place throughout the four days and completed the championship with one of the lowest totals ever posted in the competition. In inspired form, McIlroy went from strength to strength and really saw the transition of the Northern Irish golfer go from being a boy to a man. Never resting on his laurels, McIlroy kept holing birdies before on the tricky tenth hole nearly bringing the house down with a near hole in one.

It was certainly one of the best individual performances seen in recent years and with pundits already making comparisons between McIlroy and the legendary Tiger Woods, all eyes will be on Rory McIlroy in 2012 as he looks to firstly defend his us open title before hoping to build on the success and secure even more majors.
