United try and convince Ronaldo to stay

Manchester United are set to try and convince Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford for at least one more season. According to the Sun, the Premier League champions will offer the Portugal winger a deal which will see him leave next year for £65million.

Sir Alex Ferguson, however, is reported to be opposed to any deal which would see Ronaldo leaving United. But officials at the club are said to be thinking about cashing in on their prize asset with Real Madrid set to offer a world record £65m to sign the wantaway player.

Madrid president, Ramon Calderon, is reported to be desperate to sign Ronaldo after failing in his bid to sign Brazilian star Kaka from AC Milan. Despite Real winning La Liga twice in a row, Calderon is not a popular figure at the Bernabeu. Signing Ronaldo could be enough to win over the doubters.
