United confirm that Tevez will leave Old Trafford
Carlos Tevez could be set to move to Manchester City after Manchester United confirmed that the Argentina striker will leave Old Trafford.
Despite being offered a five-year deal which would have made him one of the biggest earners at the club the former West Ham striker has decided to leave United. The Premier League champions released an official statement regarding the news.
"Following contact received from Carlos Tevez's advisers last night, in advance of the deadline the club set for concluding negotiations, Manchester United announces that Carlos will not be signing a new contract with the club."
"The club agreed to pay the option price of £25.5m and offered Carlos a five-year contract which would have made him one of its highest-paid players. Disappointingly, however, his advisers informed the club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the club's most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United."
The news will come as a hammer blow to United fans. The Argentina striker had become a favourite for the Old Trafford faithful thanks to his high energy performances and the possibility of him joining City would add insult to injury.
