Irish World Cup players who usually play in Ulster rugby shirts

Coach Declan Kidney's 30-strong world cup squad consists of 16 forwards and 14 backs, captained by the evergreen Brian O' Driscoll. Five of these players are better known for producing the goods week in and week out on the pitch in their Ulster rugby shirts.

Andrew Trimble

In 2006, Andrew Trimble was crowned the Ulster Rugby Player of the Year and it's not hard to see why. This versatile fellow can play equally well on the wing or at centre and prior to the World Cup, the deft skills of this strong running back earned him 38 caps for his country. Trimble is a credit to Ireland and the pride Of those who wear the colours of Ulster rugby shirts.

Paddy Wallace

The attack-minded back can turn his hand to playing at number 10, 12 or 15, and its little wonder Paddy Wallace has been trading his Ulster rugby shirts for the green of Ireland since 2002. The Belfast born player with a degree in business studies has played for Ulster for over a decade and along with Brian O’Driscoll and Donncha O’Callaghan, Wallace was a member of the Under-19 Irish team that won the FIRA/World Youth Championship in France in 1998.

Rory Best

The Hooker with attitude was a key player in Ireland's 2007 Triple Crown winning campaign, and Rory Best is a player who commands respect, no matter what shirt he is playing in.

Tom Court

Born in Brisbane, but now living in and playing rugby in the country of his Limerick born grandfather, Tom Court is a tighthead prop whose raw power packs one hell of a punch.Three years ago Court arrived in Belfast to sign for Ulster and earlier this year made his Ireland debut against Italy. This Aussie born Irishman may have come to rugby late but he's sure leaving his mark.

Stephen Ferris

This back row brute relishes a big hit and that's just as well because Stephen Ferris was introduced to the joys of international rugby with a Test debut against the Pacific Islanders in November 2006. Ferris was considered by many to be Ireland's best player during their victorious Grand Slam run, and his imposing presence, intense physicality and impressive work ethic will all be needed if this Ulster player is to realise the dream and help his country lift the World Cup.
