Uefa charges Mourinho over 'deliberate' red cards

Uefa has decided to charge Jose Mourinho and four Real Madrid players following allegations that he instructed Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos to get themselves sent off during Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League.

Mourinho, Alonso, Ramos, Iker Casillas and Jerzy Dudek will be investigated by Uefa’s disciplinary committee for alleged unsporting conduct. A ruling on the case will be delivered next Tuesday.

Video footage appears to show Mourinho giving instructions from the bench to Alonso and then to Ramos via Dudek and Casillas. The pair picked up second yellow cards for time-wasting in the last twenty-minutes of the match.

The sending offs mean that both players will miss the meaningless game against Auxerre in December through suspension and then have no bookings for the knock-out rounds which start in February.
