Torres to miss Liverpool's trip to Debrecen

Liverpool will head to Hungary to take on Debrecen in the Champions League without star striker Fernando Torres who is still recovering from a groin injury. The Spain international had been widely expected to miss the must win game although he could be fit for next weekend's Merseyside derby.

Rafa Benitez spoke about Torres' absence on Liverpool's official website earlier today: 'We thought it would be two or three weeks and he's only 12 or 13 days into that so there's no point in him going. The next few days will decide if he is fit for Everton (on Sunday), but at this moment there are no guarantees.'

The Reds need to beat Debrecen if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League. However, a Liverpool victory will still not be enough if Fiorentina manage to beat Lyon in Florence.
