Torres could be back from injury next week

Fernando Torres could be available for selection next week according to the knee specialist that the Liverpool striker visited in Spain at the weekend.

The 26-year-old was originally ruled out for a month with a recurrence of the knee injury which has blighted his season with speculation mounting that he could miss the World Cup.

However, Dr Ramon Cugat, the knee specialist that Torres visited in Barcelona gave Reds fans some good news in an interview with the Liverpool Echo.

‘The problem is not serious but he needs to stop and rest to avoid more risk because it's the same knee on which he had surgery in January,’ Dr Cugat said.

‘But in normal circumstances, he could be ready to play next week, depending on how it settles down. The decision is now up to Liverpool's medical staff and the manager.’

Liverpool take on West Ham on Monday in what is a must win game if the Merseyside club are to have any chance of finishing fourth and thus qualifying for the Champions League.
