'They won't muck it up'

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has stuck his neck out on the line and said that his players will win the Premier League title next weekend at Blackburn. Which given that they need a point against a vastly inferior side, and which realistically only needs a point to be safe from relegation, isn’t a very tricky prediction to make.

United all but wrapped up the league title with a crushing victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford yesterday, winning 2-1 but creating enough chances to win three games. They are now six points ahead with two games to play, and a superior goal difference. They are in fact champions, as there is no way on earth they will lose to Blackburn and Blackpool over the next two weeks.

‘Knowing the players they won't muck it up,’ said Ferguson. ‘They will get a point there's no doubt about that. It's fantastic to be the most successful team in the country.

‘We do it all the time. We could have scored about six in the second half. You expect a tough game against Chelsea and we got that. We got a great start. It was a good team performance. When we gave the ball away for their goal the fans helped us by playing their part. Credit to the players because they deserved it.’
