The magic of the FA Cup

The draw for the sixth round of the FA cup was made yesterday after another rip-roaringly good weekend of cup action, complete with thrills, spills and loads of proper NAWTEE off the pitch rucking from game lads who proved they were no mugs, who came and had a go and left with their heads held high. Big scores on the Danny Dyer Scale for both Chelsea v Cardiff and Southampton v Portsmouth, both of which scored eight Adidas Gazelles out ten. Top work lads.

Anyway the upshot of all this lovely football is that we still have at least one Championship in the last eight, with the possibility of having one in the semi-finals. Should Crystal Palace beat Aston Villa at Villa Park in their fifth round replay, they will be facing either Reading or West Bromich Albion in the next round, therefore guaranteeing lower league action at Wembley. Happy days.

Palace themselves were only denied that by a Stiliyan Petrov header with only minutes to go at Selhurst Park last night, rescuing a 2-2 draw for the Premier League side. There is also every chance the they could meet West Brom in the next round, which will surely trouble the Danny Dayer Scale. Claret everywhere. The draw is below by the way, you slags (ties to be played on 6 & 7 March).

  • Chelsea v Manchester City or Stoke City
  • Fulham v Bolton Wanderers or Tottenham Hotspur
  • Reading or West Brom v Crystal Palace or Aston Villa
  • Portsmouth v Birmingham City
