The highlight

Kenny Dalglish said that his Liverpool side’s thumping win over Manchester United was their best moment so far this season.

The Reds beat United 3-1 at Anfield yesterday, with a Dirk Kuyt hat-trick giving them the three points, and Dalglish reckons that it was just what the team needed after suffering one of their worst seasons in living memory. They remain in sixth place, but are now only six points behind Chelsea in fourth and Spurs in fifth, who drew 3-3 with Wolves yesterday. Both teams do have games in hand, but the way they are playing it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them at least qualify for Europe.

‘It has been a difficult season for Liverpool - that has been the highlight, but we're not finished yet,’ said Dalglish. ‘Everyone enjoyed the day and I think they deserved to win.

‘It was very important to get three points but the way we played was really important as well. The players deserve great credit for the way they went about their work - their attitude, commitment and pride at playing at Liverpool was apparent.

‘You aren't going to get too many opponents as good as Manchester United and that helps confidence but at the end of the day, we got three thoroughly deserved points.’
