The Hand of God is mine!

There can barely be a person alive whose heart didn’t sink a little bit when Gyan missed Ghana’s last minute penalty in the World Cup quarter final against Uruguay. Sure, Luis Suarez had been sent off for his spectacular save, and Ghana did have a golden chance to put an African team into the semi-finals for the first time ever, but really, he got away with it, didn’t he?

Making it even worse for anyone who wanted the Black Stars through, the striker is revelling in his dastardly piece of cheating, and has claimed ownership of the ‘Hand of God’ title from that other legend of nefarious play, Diego Maradona. What a scoundrel.

‘The Hand of God now belongs to me. Mine is the real Hand Of God,’ he said. ‘I made the best save of the tournament. Sometimes in training I play as a goalkeeper so it was worth it. There was no alternative but for me to do that and when they missed the penalty I thought ‘It is a miracle and we are alive in the tournament’.

‘Now we are in the semi-finals although I was very sad because no one likes to be sent off. The celebration afterwards was impressive, but very quiet because nobody gave us a chance but, with courage, we move forward.’
