Tevez suffers ankle injury in shower

Carlos Tevez could be set to miss the start of the coming Premier League season after suffering a bizarre preseason injury. The Argentina striker slipped while taking a shower and aggravated a persistent ankle injury.

While City manager Mark Hughes insists that Tevez will be ready for the club's first game of the season at Blackburn Rovers on 15 August he wants the player to skip Argentina's upcoming friendly international next week.

"We don't think Carlos should play for his international team. We would prefer him to stay back next week. He hasn't trained all pre-season," Hughes said. "He had an injury from his last international and then he banged the same area when he slipped in the shower. He'll be fine for the start of the season, but he's still not able to put his full weight on it."

The former Manchester United striker is also set to miss City's friendly against Rangers tomorrow night at Ibrox and has been unable to take part in training since completing his £25.5m transfer earlier this summer.

City were hit with another blow ahead of the coming Premier League season with the news that another new signing Roque Santa Cruz is struggling with a tendinitis problem.
