Tevez inspires City to victory over West Ham

Carlos Tevez inspired Manchester City to a 3-1 win over his former team West Ham at the City of Manchester Stadium last night. The Argentina striker, signed from rivals Manchester United during the summer, scored twice while winger Martin Petrov also got his name on the score-sheet scoring with a clever free-kick on 30 minutes which deceived Rob Green.

City dominated the game from start to finish with West Ham struggling to contain the front pairing of Tevez and Craig Bellamy – two former Hammers – as well as the in form Petrov. Despite pulling a goal back through Carlton Cole midway through the first half, the London side struggled to find a foothold in the game.

The game underlined West Ham's lack of strength of depth with Gianfranco Zola forced to include four teenagers on the bench. In contrast, Roque Santa Cruz finally made his debut for big spending City who strolled to victory despite missing the services of Robinho, Emmanuel Adebayor and Stephen Ireland.
