Tevez agrees to join Manchester City

Carlos Tevez has agreed personal terms with Manchester City and is expected to put pen to paper on five-year deal at the City of Manchester Stadium providing he passes a medical.

The Argentina striker spent the last two seasons on loan at rivals Manchester United but now looks set to join the Citizens in time to take part in their pre-season tour of South Africa which gets underway next week.

City boss Mark Hughes spoke about the news on the club's official website: "It is terrific news. Carlos is an international player of the highest class who possesses all the attributes that will help drive this club forward."

"He is not only outstanding technically but he is a reliable goal scorer and someone who will contribute fully to the team ethic. He gives us another exciting, attacking dimension," Hughes continued. "I cannot wait to welcome him to City. This is yet another deal that shows the commitment of the owner Sheikh Mansour to make this club the very best it can possibly be. I am sure our fans will give Carlos an exceptionally warm welcome."

The news will come as a hammer blow to United fans as Tevez had become a favourite with the Old Trafford crowd. The 25-year-old turned down the chance of a four-year contract at United last month claiming that the club had failed to show him the respect he deserved.
