A closer look at the players who are topping the tennis world rankings

Tennis has come a long way in the last two decades, and there is so much talent in the game that it’s hard to put money on a winner in either the men’s singles or the women’s singles. With players like Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Murray and Soderling taking up the top five spots in the men's singles tennis world rankings, it’s a very competitive game.

Here we will have a look at Caroline Wozniacki and Novak Djokovic, who are currently number one in the women's and men's singles tennis world rankings.

Novak Djokovic is Serbian and has been ranked number one since 4 July 2011. He was the first Serbian player to win a grand slam singles title and has since added another two to his collection. He won the Australian Open in 2008 and 2011, and won Wimbledon in 2011. He has reached the semi final in the French Open three times: 2007, 2008 and 2011; and has made it to the final of the US Open twice, in 2007 and 2010. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he took a bronze medal in the singles competition.

Caroline Wozniacki is a young Danish player who has been ranked number one since 2010. She is yet to win a grand slam but has won an impressive 17 WTA singles titles. She reached the fourth round in this year's Wimbledon and also made it to the fourth round there in 2010 and 2009. She reached the quarter finals in the 2010 French Open and also made it to the semi finals of the Australian Open in 2011. In 2009, she got to the final of the US Open. With much of her career ahead of her, it's only a matter of time before she gets her first grand slam title.
