Tennis star Martina banned for cocaine use
Former world tennis number 1 Martina Hingis has lost her appeal against a two-year ban from the sport for drug use. Hingis tested positive for cocaine at Wimbledon last year and the International Tennis Federation handed down a ban in October.
But who’s really suffered? The ITF can’t be seriously suggesting that cocaine use enhanced her performance or gave her an unfair advantage – if anything it’s likely to have made her play worse.
What do you think? Should sports organisations stay out of drug use when it isn’t performance-related, or are the ITF right to protect the image of their sport?
Check out Martina in action on the court.
