Tevez could save City's title bid

Carlos Tevez could be Manchester City’s secret weapon in the title run-in. That’s the message sent out by City defender Micah Richards as the club reacted to losing their lead to Manchester United.

City’s 1-0 defeat at Swansea allowed United to leapfrog their local rivals and strike a psychological blow as the title race heads for the final weeks, Richards was convinced that City would react positively.

"We have to take every game as it comes," said a player who is obviously not afraid to reach for an appropriate cliche. "We need to go back and see where we went wrong here and why we are not scoring as many goals as we used to."

"Teams are defending better against us. At the start of the season we were scoring 4, 5 or 6 goals a game but in the last 2 games we have not hit the net and it is something we want to look at and improve on in next couple of games."

Richards believes that the temperamental Tevez, who has expressed a willingness to play for City again after months of sulking, could make an important difference in the final matches.

"I have always been a big fan of Tevez, I love him," Richards said. "There were games last season where he carried us on his own and in these sort of games he would get a 1-0 win for us. It's up to the manager ultimately but I would love to see him back."
