Sunderland stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Sunderland produced the biggest shock of the Premier League this season thus far beating Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier today.

The Blues are still two points ahead of second placed Arsenal, but they have now suffered two defeats in a row throwing the Premier League title race wide open.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team were missing their first choice centre back pairing of John Terry and Alex and it showed. Petr Cech was forced into smart saves from Asamoah Gyan and Kieran Richardson in the first half but Sunderland always looked the most likely to score.

Gyan and Darren Bent had scored all of Sunderland’s goals this season prior to today’s game but it was fullback Nedum Onuoha who fired the Black Cats ahead.

The England under-21 defender glided past John Obi Mikel and Jose Bosingwa before slotting past Cech in the Chelsea goal.

If Sunderland’s first goal was a brilliant individual effort their second was an excellent team move: Danny Welbeck combined with Jordan Henderson before setting up Gyan who made no mistake.

Ashley Cole gifted Sunderland their third goal when his misplaced back pass was intercepted by Welback who put the result beyond doubt.
