Sunderland complete the signing of Darren Bent

Sunderland have finally completed the signing of England international striker Darren Bent from Spurs for a record club transfer of £10m. The transfer looked to have hit the rocks earlier this week as Tottenham stalled over the price prompting Bent to vent his frustration on Twitter.

However, the deal has now been sealed with Bent putting pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland manager Steve Bruce expressed his delight at the transfer: "He's everything I want."

The former Wigan boss continued: "It has not quite happened for Darren at Spurs. But he has 50 goals in 100 Premier League starts and that speaks volumes about why we are bringing him to the club."

"He's had the competition of the likes of (Dimitar) Berbatov, (Jermain) Defoe and (Robbie) Keane, but he has still scored goals when he's been given games. He's something different - he's got pace, power, he's young, he's English and he gets goals."
