Luis Suarez seems pretty determined to ensure Liverpool get the message that he wants to leave. Recent comments have seen the controversial Uruguayan issue increasingly heavy hints that he wants to sign for Real Madrid. He used the occasion of a national team press conference to spell it out. Now all it requires is a big banner saying "Adios" and a few choruses of "The Leaving of Liverpool".

"My reason for leaving is not the money. It's my family and image," the player said. "I don't feel comfortable here anymore." Suarez was demoralised by the ten match ban imposed for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. Now he believes that the English media have a vendetta against him.

"It is a difficult moment for me," he said. "My coach and my colleagues know that the press didn't treat me well. Because of the paparazzi I could not go in my garden, I could not go to the supermarket."

The idea of Suarez strolling round the local Morrison's seems a little far-fetched, but Suarez is entitled to feel upset by his media treatment in England, where his excellent performances for Liverpool have been overshadowed by his disciplinary problems.

"I haven't been judged as a player but based on other things," he said. "I had a hard time, very hard, in the things that have been said are lies. One has limits and the family also suffers. It's nothing against Liverpool, on the contrary, I feel very comfortable at the club, but I have a daughter and I do not want her to hear bad things about her father."

Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain have been linked with Suarez, but the player would prefer Real. A Liverpool spokesperson insisted that Suarez was not for sale. "The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honour his contract," they said. If Suarez's is still intent on leaving, the club will look for a fee in excess of the £50 million they got for Fernando Torres.
