Strauss appointed new England cricket captain

Andrew Strauss has been appointed the new captain of the England cricket team following a dramatic day which saw Kevin Pietersen step down as skipper and coach Peter Moores handed his P45.

The fallout comes after Pietersen and Moores were unable to patch up their personal and professional differences ahead of the tour to the West Indies. The erstwhile captain will remain available for selection, but resigned his post to try and restore unity in the changing room.

Strauss briefly led England in 2006 when both Michael Vuaghan and Andrew Flintoff were out injured. Unfortunately his England side were thrashed 5-0 in a one day series by Sri Lanka, but Struass was impressive in the 2-0 Test win over Pakistan later the same year.
