Stoke beat Manchester City 1-0 this afternoon at the Britannia Stadium to further heap the pressure on Blues boss Mark Hughes. January signing James Beattie was the hero for the Potters heading home a Matthew Etherington centre at the end of the first half.
City were extremely poor apart from a good five minute spell at the start of the game with Robinho, Shaun Wright Phillips and Stephen Ireland struggling to provide any decent service for loan striker Craig Bellamy. Stoke again relied on Rory Delap's long throw-ins until the Irish midfielder was sent off late in the first half.
Despite the arrival of £14m Dutch international Nigel De Jong, City struggled to dominate midfield as the ten-man of Stoke dug in their heels. For all their big spending City are looking more like a collection of individuals than a team and Hughes is struggling to make his mark.
