Still no place for Owen in Capello's England squad
Fabio Capello has again chosen to leave Michael Owen out of the England squad. While the Newcastle United captain has been on the score sheet this season for his club that’s not enough for the Italian.
Although Capello insists that the door isn’t closed to Owen, it seems unlikely that the former Liverpool striker will regain his form while playing for a struggling Newcastle side. Instead Peter Crouch returns to the squad on merit after scoring five goals for Portsmouth this season.
Steven Gerrard also returns to give Don Fabio the infamous Lampard or Gerrard headache all over again. But the main concern is in goals. David James should start against Kazakhstan, but his understudy Rob Green had a game to forget for West Ham against Bolton Wanderers yesterday so lets hope that Calamity can remain fit.
England squad for World Cup qualifying matches against Kazakhstan and Belarus: James (Portsmouth), Green (West Ham), Carson (West Brom); Brown (Manchester United), Johnson (Portsmouth), Terry (Chelsea), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Lescott (Everton), Upson (West Ham), A Cole (Chelsea), Bridge (Chelsea); Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Walcott (Arsenal), Barry (Aston Villa), Jenas (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Downing (Middlesbrough), Wright-Phillips (Manchester City); Heskey (Wigan), Crouch (Portsmouth), Rooney (Manchester United), Defoe (Portsmouth).
