Still in it?

Like Mitchell and Webb once said, the FOOTBALL NEVER STOPS, and so it proved last night, with a whole host of footballing football to keep footy fans in for their football fix. Liverpool kept themselves just about in the hunt for the fourth Champions League place after a comfortable 3-0 hammering of West Ham, who look more and more likely to go down with every passing week.

The ruling out of Fernando Torres for the rest of the season did not stop the Reds from giving the Irons the showing that was expected, with goals from Yossi Benayoun and Ngog giving them a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead that put Gianfranco Zola’s side to sleep early. A second half own goal from Robert Green only added salt into the wound, and gave Liverpool a slim chance of a top four finish.

‘We have to keep doing our job,’ said Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez. ‘It will be more difficult now (to qualify for the Champions League) because Tottenham won, normally you would not expect them to win. But we have to be in a good position if they make a mistake.

‘West Ham started the game pushing but as soon as we scored the first goal it was easier, we had more chances and we scored the second goal and the third one killed the game.’
