Steve Borthwick named new England captain
Steve Borthwick has been named the new England captain by new manager Martin Johnson. The 29-year-old Saracens second-row takes over from Phil Vickery after skippering the side on England's summer tour to New Zealand.
Johnson thanked Vickery and underlined Borthwick's credentials as captain ahead of the upcoming autumn internationals against the Pacific Islands, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
"Firstly, I'd like to thank Phil Vickery for everything he did for the team while he was captain," Johnson told reporters. "Like Phil, Steve is a good leader and always prepares thoroughly for all his matches at club and international level and I'm looking forward to working with him."
