Spurs Uefa cup win lifts some of the gloom
Spurs lifted some of the doom and gloom at White Hart Lane by recording their first win of the season beating Wisla Krakow 2-1 last night in the Uefa Cup. Darren Bent and David Bentley got on the scoresheet for Juande Ramos's side who were lucky to get the win over the Polish Champions.
Heurelho Gomes produced a string of stunning saves for Spurs before Darren Bent sealed the win for the London side. While Spurs' fans will hope that the result will kick start their team's season they also know that they conceded a vital away goal to Wisla ahead of the return leg.
Elsewhere, a poor Everton side drew 2-2 with Standard Liege. The Belgian side, who ran Liverpool close in the Champions League qualifier, will be hoping to go one better against the Toffees in two weeks time.
Portsmouth enjoyed a 2-0 win over Guimaraes thanks to goals from Jermaine Defoe and Lassana Diarra, Aston Villa beat Bulgarian side Litex Lovech 3-1 away and Manchester City beat Omonia Nicosia 3-1 in Cyprus.
