Spurs set to make improved bid for Ashton
Tottenham are set to make an improved offer for West Ham striker Dean Ashton after having an initial £15m bid turned down. Spurs' deal for Andrei Arshavin looks to be off, so they have now turned their attentions to the England striker.
The Hammers, however, are reluctant to let Ashton leave after he signed a new five-year contract in June. Letting the 25-year-old go would also leave the club short of strikers. Bobby Zamora has joined Fulham while Craig Bellamy damaged a hamstring during Monday's friendly with Ipswich.
But selling Ashton would substantially reduce West Ham's wage bill. So, any improved offer from Spurs could see the former Crewe and Norwich striker join the Ramos revolution at White Hart Lane.
