Spurs offer £8m plus David Bentley for Ashley Young

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is reported to have offered £8m plus David Bentley to Aston Villa for the Premier League's Young Player of the Year, Ashley Young.

Young, 23, had a brilliant season up until Christmas for the Villains, earning attention from a number of big spending clubs as well as an England call-up. Despite struggling with his form in the latter half of the season, the former Watford player is still believed to be on the wish lists of a number of clubs including Spurs and Chelsea.

Villa manager, Martin O'Neill, however will be reluctant to sell the talented youngster after already losing Martin Laursen (retired) and Gareth Barry (sold to Manchester City) from last season's starting XI.

If the deal does go ahead, it could at least be a good move for David Bentley who has endured a nightmare first season at White Hart Lane. The 24-year-old has failed to hold down a starting place since his £15m switch from Blackburn and has subsequently dropped out of the England squad.
