Spurs' Italian job

Tottenham Hotpsur flew the flag for English football last night, beating Serie A leaders AC Milan 1-0 at the San Siro and giving themselves an great chance of making it through to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Spurs grabbed the shock result thanks to a late goal from England striker Peter Crouch, in a stormy match which saw several horror tackles – the worst being Mathieu Flamini’s on Vedran Corluka – and Gennaro Gattuso head-butting Joe Jordan. Milan also had a late equaliser ruled out for offside, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic thought that his bicycle kick had salvaged a draw for the Italians.

‘It was a great night,’ said Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp. ‘It was a fantastic performance but it's still all to play for. We've got to make sure we finish the job at home because we know they're dangerous and can score. There's a long way to go to get through this round.’
