Spurs beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park this afternoon to put a serious dent in Martin O'Neill's attempts to finish in the top four this season. The Villains produced a low key performance which suggested that their threadbare squad may have run out of energy.
Despite dominating the first half Villa went in 1-0 down at the break following Jermaine Jenas' opener. Tottenham went 2-0 up on 49 minutes thanks to a Darren Bent header prompting Martin O'Neill to throw on John Carew.
The decision almost paid off with the big Norwegian pulling a goal back five minutes from the end, but at that point it was too late for Villa who were left to reflect on a litany of missed chances in front of goal with Stilian Petrov and Emile Heskey the main culprits.
