Spurs are on their way to Europe

Tottenham Hotspur surged into the Champions League last night, after a thumping 4-0 victory over Swiss side BSC Young Boys. A Peter Crouch hat-trick and another goal from Jermaine Defoe were enough to take Spurs through to the lucrative group stages of the Champions League, where they will face some of the big guns of Europe, including the likes of Real Madrid, Internazionale and Barcelona.

‘I always hoped I would get to the Champions League and I thought it was possible,’ said Harry Redknapp after the match. ‘Tottenham under-achieved for a long time but I thought the potential was there. Eight or nine of the players were here when I came so it's not like I went out and bought a new team.

‘It was about confidence and changing their attitude in some cases. They've responded and finished fourth last season. It was important not to waste the opportunity. We nearly did.

‘Hopefully this will be a turning point and the club will keep moving onwards and upwards. There are some big clubs in the draw. We're in group three and there are big teams coming out of the top two sections. There are some good teams all around the world, it's changing. The whole thing has moved on.’
