Spurs agree Bentley deal and close in on Arshavin
Spurs have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Blackburn Rovers for the transfer of David Bentley for a fee of £17m. The 23-year-old England winger will be unveiled today after undergoing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the London club.
Bentley is Spurs first signing since Robbie Keane was sold to Liverpool earlier this week and they are reportedly in negotiations with Russian club Zenit St Petersburg over a deal for Andrei Arshavin. The Russian was expected to join Barcelona after a briefly lighting up the European Championship, but the Catalan club were unwilling to meet Zenit's £24m asking price.
Arshavin is reported to be keen on a move to Spurs after Arsenal and Barcelona both cooled their interest in signing the talented Russian. It remains to be seen if Tottenham will be willing to meet Zenit's asking price for the diminutive midfielder after having an original bid of £19m turned down. The arrival of Arshavin would also help to appease any fans unhappy with the departure of Keane.
