Spain beat Russia 3-0 to reach final of Euro 2008
Spain will meet Germany in the final of Euro 2008 on Sunday after their impressive 3-0 semi-final win over Russia in Vienna last night. Xavi, David Silva and Daniel Guiza got the goals to see Spain through to their first major final in twenty-four years.
Cesc Fábregas was the star on the night for Spain coming on for the injured David Villa after 34 minutes. The Arsenal midfielder laid on two of Spain's goals giving a master class in passing football together with Iniésta, Xavi and Marcos Senna.
Russia were unable to cope with Spain's slick passing and movement under the pouring rain in Vienna. Much was expected of Andrei Arshavin after his dazzling display against Holland but the Zenit St Petersburg player never really got into the game and was reduced to chasing shadows in the second half.
It looks as if Spain will be without David Villa for the final through injury but at least it may force Luis Aragonés to give Fábregas a starting place on Sunday.
