Sound of Silva

Manchester City started their Europa League campaign with a win in Austria last night, beating Casino Salzburg 2-0 thanks to goals from new signing David Silva and shot-shy ‘striker’ Jo. City boss Roberto Mancini was quick to praise Silva for his display, which came after a shaky start in English football.

‘Silva is a fantastic player - for him it is a different situation now,' said Mancini. 'He is playing a different kind of football. But after one month, he is ready to go 100% for the team.

‘He will be an important player for the future. He is a strong player who played for Valencia in the Champions League for many years.’

Elsewhere in the Europa League, there weren’t any real shocks, other than Juventus drawing 3-3 at home with Polish side Lech Poznan. Which is enough to make any fan of Italian football laugh.
