Sad news today that Sir Bobby Robson is considering stepping down from international football. Sir Bobby is expected not to renew his two-year contract as a consultant to Ireland, whom he’s been advising for their current European Championship qualifying campaign.
The 74-year-old former manager of Ipswich, Barcelona, FC Porto, Newcastle and England has been undergoing chemotherapy for cancerous growths on the lungs. But his passion and footballing brain remain as sharp as ever. Just this week, he entertained journalists to a penetrating analysis of the Ireland-Germany draw using bottles of mineral water, tumblers – and a boiled sweet for the football.
