Shearer to be named as Newcastle manager
Alan Shearer looks set to be named Newcastle manager until the end of the season. The former England striker is reported to be finalising the details of a deal to take over at St James' Park and will have the difficult task of rescuing the Magpies from the drop.
The 38-year-old scored a record 206 goals for Newcastle during a ten-year spell at the club he supported as a boy and is considered a living legend by the Toon Army.
Kevin Keegan tried to lure Shearer back to St James' Park with a coaching role at the north-east club last season, but he chose to remain on the comfortable Match of the Day couch.
However, it now appears that Shearer was unable to say no to the club he supports in its hour of need. Will he be any good? The next eight matches will tell.
