Setanta Sports goes into administration
Setanta Sports has gone into administration and will go off air later today in the UK. The news comes just days after the troubled broadcaster failed to meet payments for the rights for games in both the Scottish and English Premier Leagues.
The company, which offered coverage of football, Indian Premier League cricket and PGA golf, had over 1.2m subscriptions who will be directly affected by the news. The administrators released a statement regarding the news earlier today.
"After a huge effort by the Setanta board, management team and its backers, it has not been possible to save the GB business, which will be wound down in due course."
"This decision means that it will shortly cease broadcasting to its customers in Great Britain."
"We can confirm that no further monthly subscriptions or direct debits will be accepted from customers of the UK business."
While Setanta International and Setanta Ireland will remain on air, over 200 people are set to lose their jobs following the collapse of the UK operation including legendary football presenter and all round nice guy James Richardson. You'll be missed Jimbo.
