Serena Williams had made the final of Wimbledon after a stunning match against Russian Elena Dementieva 6-7, 7-5, 8-6 this afternoon.
In searing heat in south-west London, the pair produced probably the match of the tournament so far, with both players going toe.to-toe to try and book their place in the final. Dementieva passed up two match points to beat the American, who she actually had a good record against; in every match against Willams that went to distance, she'd won them.
However in the end the pressure of the situation told, and Williams pulled back from a set down to go through, with a possible match against her sister Venus awaiting her.
'Having my parents there helped. I didn't play my best game but they're so positive they always help me,' said Williams afterwards. 'We gave the crowd a wonderful match and I'm so glad to have won. I'm going to watch Venus and cheer her on.'
