Sebastien Vettel to start on pole at Silverstone

Sebastien Vettel will start on pole position for Red Bull Racing in tomorrow's British grand prix at Silverstone after an electrifying display in qualifying. Championship leader Jenson Button struggled to keep with the pace and starts back in sixth place.

The English driver's Brawn GP team-mate and championship rival Rubens Barrichello is second on the grid. Vettel was delighted with his performance in qualification, but Button admitted that it will be a tall order to win his seventh grand prix of the season.

"I think it is almost impossible to win. I just haven't had the pace all weekend," Button said. "I was hoping for something a bit better. Being sixth is a lot worse than what I thought it would be, so it's going to be a difficult race tomorrow. The problem is we've struggled with tyre temperatures because it is so cold. We have to hope tomorrow we can get the tyres to work. In qualifying I struggled massively with grip."

While Button was bitterly disappointed with his efforts in qualifying his woes pale into insignificance when compared to those of last year's Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton. The McClaren driver recorded a career low 19th place after yet another disastrous qualifying round.
