Rooney declared fit for Milan game

Manchester United were given a huge boost ahead of tonight’s Champions League second-leg match with AC Milan at Old Trafford after Wayne Rooney was declared fit.

The England striker, who has been in scintillating form this season with 23 Premier League goals so far, looked set to miss the showdown with Milan after picking up a knee injury on international duty last Wednesday.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson told reporters yesterday afternoon that Rooney would be available for selection: 'He [Rooney] is fit,' Ferguson said. 'There is a rapid improvement from Saturday morning because on Friday evening I didn't think he had any chance. It's good news. He is a threat to anyone at the moment.'

United, who are 3-2 ahead on aggregate from the first-leg at the San Siro two weeks ago, will be without Michael Carrick who is suspended as well as the injured trio of Michael Owen, Ryan Giggs and Wes Brown.
