Roger Feder makes the semi-finals of the US Open

Roger Federer has strolled into the semi-finals of the US Open after beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and another rain delay, in straight sets, laying to rest the ghost of his quarter final defeat to the same man at Wimbledon.

The Swiss beat Tsonga 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, calmly dispatching his opponent with a solid display of serving, and even the rain delay didn't put him out of his stride: despite dropping his serve on the resumption of play Tsonga simply couldn't get near Federer, who will now face man-of-the-hour Novak Djokovic in the semis. That looks to be the match that will decide the tournament.

'I played great,' said Federer. 'For me it continues, and that is awesome. I'm very happy with the way I'm playing, the way I'm moving and I'm enjoying myself on the court.'
