Ronnie O’Sullivan’s 9-1 trouncing of Mark King in this year’s Maplin UK Championship confirms what we’ve always thought: Ronnie is simple the best player of the game there’s ever been, and it’s really up to him and him alone how many more titles he wins.
Ronnie didn’t play particularly well by his sublime standards – and King certainly didn’t push him – but when he was given opportunities he closed down frames with brutal efficiency.
The only thing that stands between him and a sackload more titles are his own personal demons. On occasion they’ve proved much tougher opponents than any of the Top 16.
